Naduvoorkarai Village

Naduvoorkarai is a tiny village in mondaikad town panchayat in Kannyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The village is located 22 kilometers away from the District Headquarters, Nagercoil. The nearby main bus-stations are Monday Market, Colachel, Manavalakurichy and Karungal. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport and railway station is at Eraniel – 8 km away from the village. It is rich green because of its thick vegetation and the evergreen forest that covers the hills and mountains and externally surrounded by oceans, Indian Ocean in the south, Bay of Bengal at the east and Arabic sea at the west. It impresses anyone with its green fields stretching for miles together, rubber estates and other plantations at the mountainsides and coconut groves along the seacoast. They give a happy blend of richly varied natural beauty and ineffable vigour of human life. Once, it was part of the Kerala State; but it has been annexed to Tamil Nadu for political reasons. Hence, it enjoys diverse culture and multilingual opportunities. Naduvoorkarai proudly offers a “Sivasakthi Temple” & Mondaikad offers an "Amman Temple", which is described as the "Sabarimalai of Women". The age-old AVM canal (along the coast) once connected Kannyakumari District, Tamilnadu and Kerala state through water transport. Coconut groves, stretching along the coast, feed the people inland, whereas fishing feeds the coastal people. A good number of Higher Secondary Schools are located nearby the village. The "Indian Rare Earths Limited" at Manavalakurichy is a major industry of central government undertaking. The people of the locality mainly are ordinary labourers and coolies, who earn their daily bread in kiln factories. Nearby tourist destinations include Mondaikad Bagavathi Amman temple, Padmanabhapuram Palace, Sanguthurai Beach, Manavalakurichy, Muttom beach and Nagercoil.

SIVASAKTHI AMMAN TEMPLE :
The temple of Sivasakthi is one of the most famous shrines of South India and is situated in the village of Naduvoorkarai. Originally known as Naduvoorkarai Arulmigu Sivasakthi temple, the village lies on the shores of Arabian Sea. The temple is century old and the story behind the temple is an interesting one. Once lord Shiva and Sakthi were returning home after serving food to all living beings and they felt tired and decided to take rest and they searched for a calm place, since village Naduvoorkarai has beautiful evergreen trees and water canals they selected this place and rested for awhile. Initially the statue of the god was in sleeping state, but now the statue was in sitting state after the revamp of temple in 2005. The temple has a beautiful architecture and has inscriptions that depict various gods. The temple has separate devotional place for Lord Ganesha, Lord Bairava, Lord Sastha and Navagrahas.

GLORIES OF GOD:
Around thirty years ago, some thieves who came through this village stole some of the rice, vessels and temple possessions that were kept in the queues. The villagers who came to the temple in the morning were shocked. They pleaded with God to punish the thieves. People were worried because the properties of God were stolen by the thieves. After one year, one night the thieves who stole the belongings of temple were sleeping in the temple complex, attracted by the power of Sivasakthi with their luggages. In the morning, people who came to the temple came to know that they were thieves who stole the temple. ! God is really great he punished thieves within a year that is the power of God.
